At FOUNDATIONS ACADEMY you will embark on an exciting journey into the world of art, history, culture, the relationships between them, as well as being able to demonstrate your own ideas. I am glad you are here and excited to take the journey with you.

 How we learn in art
Art is taught in a series of units that introduce learning of art history, geogrophy, culture, language skills, and connections to other disciplines, while encouraging creativity and personal expression. Each unit focuses on a country and is designed to expose children to the visual arts from a particular part of the world, while providing instruction in the use of many different types of materials and techniques.

Each project usually takes about four to five classes (four to five weeks) to complete from start to finish.  Projects are set up to build the students knowledge about the particular country the grade level is focusing on. Together, we explore the meaning of art in our lives, and discover the art of other times, places, and cultures.

The day starts out by practicing drawing skills and discussing art topics. Then the class goes on to complet an art project, and last reflect about what they learned in art critiques and written work.

Our Art classes here at Foundation Academy, give our students the opportunity to have art in their lives, increase their skills and knowledge of various art media, and most of all, to have fun!

Everyone is an artist in their own way, students are graded acording to our schools criteria and not artistic ability. Students artwork is assested on how well they follow directions, how much time and effort they put into their work, and their use of concepts taught.

As students move from grade to grade, their knowledge of the arts will increase. My ultimate goal is for each child to graduate form the school with a good understanding and appreciation for the arts and humanities.
